An enchanting village to discover

On the islet of Magaride it is possible to come across Borgo Marinari, a district linked to the city through a small strip of land, where it is possible to savor the silence and an atmosphere almost suspended in time, far from the frenetic rhythms and liveliness of the Campania capital.

The fascinating history of Borgo Marinari
The history and life of this village is closely linked to that of Naples and begins when some Greek colonists from Cuma decided to colonize it and found a port emporium. The presence of the Greeks, over the years, was replaced by that of the Romans, so much so that according to some legends, the territory became the seat of the annex of the Roman general Lucio Licinio Lucullo.

The Greeks and Romans were not the only inhabitants of the village: the Basilian monks also arrived shortly before the beginning of the Middle Ages and founded their convent initially dedicated to San Salvatore and then later to San Sebastiano. Not surprisingly, even today, in fact, the area is known as the islet of San Salvatore. The fear of an invasion by the Normans forced the monks to move from the islet itself which was transformed into a small garrison to protect the city. However, the Norman conquest was inevitable and the military garrison became the basis for the construction of the future Castel dell'Ovo.

Over the centuries, Borgo Marinari hosted more and more fishing families, but at the end of the 19th century, following a reclamation, the neighborhood took on an even more picturesque aspect. From that moment it is as if time had stopped here.
