Halloween in Naples: Tradition and History

Halloween in Naples is not just a holiday influenced by the United States, but it has its roots in local tradition and the cult of the dead. The celebration, dating back to the Irish Middle Ages, coincides with the Celtic New Year and All Saints' Day. In the past, October 31st was celebrated by Neapolitan children who, dressed in rags and with a cardboard coffin, asked for "Cicci morti" in memory of the deceased.
