Recent excavations along the high-speed railway line Naples-Bari have revealed authentic archaeological treasures, demonstrating how infrastructural progress can coexist with the protection of historical heritage. During the works, artifacts of great value have been found, including a Copper Age village in Acerra, a section of the ancient Appian Way in Maddaloni, and a Hellenistic-Roman sanctuary in Ponte, in the Benevento area.
These findings were presented at an event at Napoli Afragola Station and will continue their tour in other cities, aiming to enhance the cultural heritage that has emerged thanks to the railway construction sites. Among the artifacts unearthed, there are coins, figurines, oil lamps, as well as remains of a Roman villa in Solopaca and numerous Campanian burial sites with rich funeral goods.
The project of the new Naples-Bari line, with an investment of over 6 billion euros, will not only significantly reduce travel times between the two cities but also represents an opportunity for archaeological research. The FS Group, through the Archaeolog entity, continues to collaborate with the Superintendencies for the restoration and conservation of artifacts, transforming railway construction sites into real windows to the past.
This extraordinary synergy between innovation and history is a source of pride for the Campania region and the entire country, demonstrating that progress can go hand in hand with the rediscovery and enhancement of our roots.
